“Start as you mean to go on”…

This is a great expression, but can be a little frustrating. As an excellent procrastinator, I can find this a terrifying prospect because starting is often the hardest part! It’s also so much easier said than done, especially when circumstances throw banana skins in our paths (2020 anyone?!).

Personally, I prefer: “go on as you wish you’d started.”

I find that this gives me permission to start at any point, at any time and just get going. Not all projects have linear timelines and starting something is better than doing nothing at all. Equally, if one of those pesky banana skins gets in the way, I can jump to something I can do, rather than fretting over what I can’t
