January 2021

Welcome to this month’s Brolly Good Ideas newsletter.

Happy New Year!

I hope you had a peaceful Christmas, however you chose to celebrate (or not) and are looking forward to 2021 with renewed energy and vigour.

This year, I’m hoping to reach more people to spread optimism and a ‘can-do’ feeling about ourselves, our health and wellbeing.

Emotional Fitness

Putting 2020 behind us is a hugely significant marker and we still don’t know what 2021 will bring. Take control of what you can and make the choices that will help you in the long-term.

We all know that keeping ourselves physically fit helps with our emotional homeostasis. Being outdoors in green spaces is also extremely beneficial. I feel really fortunate to live not far from the woods and a good forest bathe never fails to lift my mood.

What are you doing to keep yourself well on every level? Need some help? Drop me a line.

Physical Fitness

Locally, our Coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions mean that we can train in pairs; this allows me to Coach 1:1 in a public place or online, in accordance with my current qualifications.

There are so many benefits to training with others and there’s no reason why you can’t have a training group with a friend or two. You might not be able to do your sessions together, but you could have a WhatsApp group or similar to make sure you stay on track. I’m offering remote group training sessions where friends will be sent the same sessions each week. This is a much more affordable way of keeping yourself on track and we can even schedule in some catch-up calls to tweak the sessions as necessary. Get in touch if you’ve a group who’d like to train together.

Foam Rolling and Stretching

After the success of the online foam roller and stretch session in December, it’s being repeated each Wednesday evening in January. You can book online [NB each session will be the same, so only book one session!]

Pilates – coming soon!

I’m really excited to announce that I’m soon to qualify as a Pilates instructor and I will be adding Pilates sessions to my offer as soon as I can. Pilates is a really great way to improve your general mobility, strength and stability without jumping around! Get in touch if you’d be interested in some taster sessions.

Running – Tilehurst Runs Together

Run Strong and Run BAGS (backs, abs, glutes and stretch) continue via Zoom on Tuesday and Thursday evenings respectively (each have an on-demand facility via Facebook, too). They’re suitable for all, with plenty of options, regardless of your current fitness level and I promise you’ll feel better for joining us!

The VIP Facebook group is also available for just £5 a month, with no complicated admin!

And finally…

Don’t forget that Sport In Mind are OFFICIAL partners with RED January. If you’d like to get active every day in January and support their excellent work at the same time, you can register on their website.

2020 and Dendrochronology

Turning 40 in the midst of a pandemic has its advantages: the time and inclination for self-reflection has been optimum and contributed massively to a significant upturn in my blog output. This is good for me; you can choose whether or not you read it! Anyway, all this navel-gazing has resulted in this… Discomfort Discomfort…
